It all started with “Running for Office.”
That was the name of a fund-raising race-walk that NEA used to hold at the Annual Meeting. Delegates were encouraged to get their local members to sponsor them (so much per mile, or a flat amount) with donations for NEA-PAC (the forerunner of the Fund for Children and Public Education). I kept a journal during the Annual Meeting and sent it to my local sponsors as a daily email. (Blogs hadn’t been invented yet; even email seemed exotic!)
Although NEA dropped “Running for Office” years ago, my local members encouraged me to continue “Notes from Camp,” and I’ve continued it (with some adjustments in tone) as Executive Director. It serves to inform folks who never attended an RA, folks who don’t attend the RA, and–with various announcements–current delegates.
Participation is encouraged. You’ll see a procedure for comments, and readers should feel free to leave them.
